HANNIBAL, Mo. | Hannibal police made two new arrests Saturday during an ongoing illegal drug enforcement investigation led by members of the Hannibal Police Department's Anti-Crime Enforcement Squad.
The efforts began Wednesday, Nov. 13 through Friday, Nov. 15, stemming from several months of narcotic distribution investigations by the Hannibal Police ACES. Another arrest was made at a residence on the 2000 block of Chestnut, where officers gained consent to search for a known suspect. Officers found Anthony D. Essig, 41, of Hannibal, hiding in a shower. Essig was the subject of a distribution of a controlled substance investigation (methamphetamine), and a warrant had been issued by the Associate Circuit Court of Marion County for a felony charge of distribution of a controlled substance with bond set at $50,000 cash or surety. Another person at the residence was arrested for reportedly hindering prosecution and possessing drug paraphernalia. The person was released pending review of the case by Marion County Prosecuting Attorney Luke Bryant.
Essig was taken into custody on the warrant. Officers also arrested him for possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. He remains lodged in the Marion County Jail, and his first court appearance was set for Monday, Dec. 9.
