HANNIBAL — The Hannibal softball team had a five-run cushion and was three outs from victory.

The Hornets scored three runs in the final inning and left the tying run on base as the Pirates escaped with a 5-3 North Central Missouri Conference victory Thursday night at Veterans Complex.
Hannibal's Kylie McAfee got out of the jam by working a ground out and a fly out.
Alyssa Hart had an RBI single in the first for Hannibal, and McAfee made it 2-0 in the third on an RBI double.
Maggie Woodside hit an RBI double in the fourth, and Sydney Hart and Alyssa Hart both drove in runs.
The Pirates had 11 hits as McAfee, Woodside, Chloe Simms and Taylor Simms each had two hits.
McAfee scattered 10 hits while striking out two.
Pirates win in two sets
MENDON, Ill. — Three different players had at least six kills as the Hannibal volleyball team defeated Unity 25-23, 25-20 Thursday night.
Bella Falconer led the Pirates with eight kills and eight assists. Abby Baumann and Emma Deien had six kills apiece.
Kaylee Falconer dished out 14 assists.
Panthers win Moberly Invite
MOBERLY, Mo. — The Monroe City girls cross country team won the Moberly Invitational with 46 points, winning the meet by 18 points.
Emmalee Williams was the top finisher for the Panthers, finishing fifth in 21:49.30. Bailey Hays was sixth in 21:50.10.
On the boys side, Kaleb Griffin was the top Monroe City finisher, crossing the line in 19:58.22, good enough for 22nd. Kabott Harlan was 24th in 20:04.78.
The boys team finished sixth with 168 points.
