Shutout helps Panthers win consolation title

CENTRALIA, Mo. – A 1-0 victory over Putnam County helped the Palmyra softball team capture the consolation championship of the Centralia Invitational Softball Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The lone run came in the bottom of the first inning on Megan Stone's solo home run.

It was the only run support Lydia Althoff needed as she threw a one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts. She worked around six walks.

Palmyra opened the tournament with a 3-1 loss to Hallsville, but followed that with a 6-3 victory over host Centralia.

A three-run third inning help Palmyra beat Centralia as Cameron O'Brien hit a two-run single, and Bailey Lovelace followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0. Palmyra scored two insurance runs off an error in the sixth.
