Scouting the Pirates: Hannibal has stormed back to a .500 record after an ugly first three weeks of the season. In the losses to Helias, Jefferson City and Bolivar, Hannibal struggled to find the end zone. That hasn't been a problem the last three weeks as the Pirates are averaging 52 points in the last three contests. Their 69 points last week against Fulton as the highest output of the season. Junior running back Damien French has rushed for more than 200 yards in his last two games, and has 798 yards on the season along with 12 touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Courtland Watson has rushed for 318 yards and four touchdowns. He's also thrown three touchdown passes on the season. The defense is still vulnerable, and it showed as Fulton scored on two long pass plays last week. However, those big plays are become fewer.
Scouting the Spartans: Moberly has rattled off two straight victories after losing two straight. Neither victory has been convincing, but the Spartans have shown strength in both. Moberly outpaced Macon Sept. 27 with a 42-32 victory, and followed that with a defensive struggle in a 10-7 victory over Marshall. Against the Owls, neither side scored touchdowns until the final seven minutes of the game. Moberly's touchdown came on a 74-yard run by Dominic Stoneking for the game-winning score. Moberly kicker Ethan Vandall drilled a 24-yard field goal in the first half. Running back Jarrett Kinder had 109 of Moberly's 269 rushing yards in the victory over Marshall.
