HANNIBAL | The Hannibal-LaGrange University men's soccer team bolstered their team with an international signing, as the Trojans added Diego Lizardalde from Madrid, Spain.

“We are looking forward to having Diego join us this upcoming fall,” said HLGU men's soccer head coach David Erskine. “He is a solid defender who has the capability to move forward on the attack, creating goal scoring opportunities.”

Lizardalde found out about HLGU when he saw the university's Instagram page, and decided to fill out the recruiting questionnaire. His parents are Sonia and Raul.

The 6' 2” center scored eight goals for his high school team last year, Colegio Apostol Santiago. Lizardalde likes to push into the offensive third of the pitch as a defender.

HLGU's signing of Lizardalde caps off a series of recent signings for the men's soccer program. Within the past couple weeks, the Trojans have added goalkeeper Roman Kudrav of Buffalo Grove High School in Illinois, Javan Callison of Faith Baptist Christian School in Illinois.

Lizardalde will also have one of his fellow countrymen on the Trojans next season. On April 24, HLGU signed Ikar Roncal from Navarra, Spain. Roncal had previously played for Luis Amigo, and was part of their state championship squad during the 2017-18 season.

Last season, the Trojans finished with an 11-7-1 overall record and an 7-3-1 conference record. HLGU advanced to the conference quarterfinals, were they lost to Williams Baptist University 1-0.

HLGU is scheduled to begin their season on Saturday, Aug. 29, and will host Culver-Stockton College in their home opener.
