HANNIBAL, MO – The Northeast Missouri Humane Society (NEMOHS) has announced the grand opening of its new on-site feline surgical suite, “Spay/Neuter NEMO Cats”, (SNNC).

This dedicated clinic is designed to provide high-quality, low-cost sterilization services specifically for cats, further cementing the organization’s commitment to community pet retention and its status as a “no-kill” facility.

Starting last month, the clinic started to offer spay and neuter appointments every Friday at the shelter’s facility located at 7135 Veterans Road. This initiative aims to address the critical need for accessible feline sterilization in Hannibal and the surrounding area.

“Efficiency and resourceful grit are at the heart of what we do,” says Elise Blue, Ex Dir, NEMOHS. “By bringing these services on-site, we are taking a proactive step to manage the local cat population and support families who want to provide the best care for their pets without the burden of high costs.”

A True Team Effort

The launch of Spay/Neuter NEMO Cats is the result of a coordinated effort between the shelter’s dedicated staff and local partners, including the medical expertise of Dr. Jodi Markle.

“The only way this works is the dedication of the staff and them stepping up and helping,” said Elise Blue, Executive Director. “It is definitely a team effort! With the support of our community, who understand the importance of humane animal welfare solutions, we are truly hoping for great success.”

This surgical suite represents a significant step forward in the shelter’s mission to provide accessible care to the region it serves. By focusing on high-volume sterilization, the organization continues to strengthen the foundation of its “no-kill” status achieved in 2024.
