Anita Treaster, 86 of O’Fallon, MO, formerly of Independence, MO passed away at 1:20 AM on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 8, 2026, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, MO. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate.
Friends and family are invited to Anita’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Monday at the funeral home.
Anita was born on October 16, 1939, in Scales Mound, IL to Arthur Harwick and Marcella Sullivan Harwick.
She was married on Thanksgiving Day on November 28, 1957, in Hannibal, MO to Richard “Dick” Treaster, Jr. He survives. Also surviving are two children: Kenneth Treaster (Marlys) of Hannibal, MO and Sheryl Treaster of St. Louis, MO; one brother, Charles Harwick of Hemet, CA; four sisters: Elaine Smith of Janesville, WI, Yvonne Brandon (William) of Machesney Park, IL, Carolyn Reifsteck of Abingdon, IL, and Margaret Townsend (Steve) of Scales Mound, IL; one brother-in-law, John Blunt; four grandchildren: April Holzem (Mark), Ashley Williams (Jerod), Jean Paul Thibodeaux (Jennifer), and Haylee Womack (Brian); and eight great grandchildren: Kenley Holzem, Remi Williams, Evie Williams, Kiley Thibodeaux, Khloe Thibodeaux, Wyatt Parezo, Nolan Womack, and Easton Womack. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents; twin infant siblings, Elizabeth and Edward; one sister, Mary Lu Blunt; and two brothers, Edward Harwick and Raymond Harwick.
Anita was a 1956 graduate of Scales Mound High School, where she was salutatorian of her graduating class and served as her senior class reporter. She went on to enjoy a lengthy career with Chicago Title Insurance Company in Kansas City, MO, where she was a guarantee closer for over 26 years, retiring in 1995.
Away from work, Anita enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, gardening, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren. Over the years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband Dick, having traveled to all fifty states and twelve countries! A talented athlete in high school, Anita was a great basketball player and later in life was an excellent bowler and golfer. Crappie and walleye fishing adventures, watching hummingbirds and cardinals from her deck, and baking her famous Pineapple Strawberry Combination cake were a few of Anita’s favorites. Most of all, Anita cherished the times she shared together with her family. Anita was a Catholic by faith.
Pallbearers will be Steve Townsend, Hooper White, Jean Paul Thibodeaux, Mark Holzem, Jerod Williams, and Brian Womack.
Memorial contributions may be made to Maple Lawn Nursing Home or to St. Croix Hospice.
