Center for Human Services launch Missouri’s first mobile accessibility center

SEDALIA — Center for Human Services has launched Missouri’s first statewide Mobile Sensory & Accessibility Resource Center, with Google serving as the founding sponsor of the initiative aimed at making community events more accessible to people with disabilities.
The 34-foot mobile unit includes a calming environment and a fully ADA-accessible restroom equipped with a universal changing table, allowing children and adults with disabilities, sensory sensitivities, autism, mobility challenges, or medical needs to more easily participate in public events. The center will travel across Missouri to fairs, festivals, sporting events, schools, legislative events, and other community gatherings.
“Google’s commitment represents far more than the funding of a Mobile Center; it represents a shared belief that accessibility should travel to where people live, gather, celebrate, and connect,” said Dave Kramer, chief executive officer of Center for Human Services.
Organizers said the mobile unit is expected to appear at events including the Missouri State Fair, University of Missouri athletics events, Legislative Disability Awareness Day, community festivals in St. Louis and Kansas City, and events in rural communities throughout the state.
“This partnership demonstrates what’s possible when innovation and community collaboration come together,” said Trystine Payfer, data center public affairs manager at Google. “We believe technology and accessibility should help create opportunities for everyone. We’re proud to partner with Center for Human Services to help make communities across Missouri more welcoming and inclusive for those who need it most.”
Officials said the mobile center marks the first phase of a longer-term effort to build a statewide accessibility network, and the two organizations are exploring options for multi-year operational support that would allow the program to expand.
Center for Human Services said it is inviting community organizations, businesses, and individuals to reserve the mobile center for events or to donate toward its operation and outreach efforts.
Center for Human Services provides developmental and other services to more than 12,000 children and adults with varying abilities annually across more than 65 counties in Missouri.
