PALMYRA, Mo. | Members of the Palmyra R-1 Board of Education hired Bridgette Augspurg as Palmyra Elementary School Principal for the 2020-2021 school year during a special meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 12, in the office of the Board of Education at 1703 South Main St. in Palmyra.

Bridgette Augspurg is a native of Palmyra. She was raised by her parents, Rick and Dianna Hoenes. Augspurg has two sisters and one brother. She married Andy Augspurg in 2004 and they have three children: Norah, 13, Wyatt, 11, and Kason, 9. Augspurg knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher, often asking for filing cabinets and teacher stools for Christmas.

Bridgette graduated from Palmyra High School in 1999 and then went on to college at Missouri State University and the University of Missouri-Columbia. She began her teaching career in Hannibal, teaching first grade at Veterans Elementary for four years. She then moved to Palmyra Middle School and taught fifth-eighth grade Reading/sixth grade ELA for five years before moving back to her roots — teaching first grade at Palmyra Elementary School. She was a first grade teacher for three years before moving into the assistant principal position. Bridgette has been the assistant principal at PES for five years.

In her free time, Augspurg enjoys being outdoors — relaxing by her pool with a good book or taking long runs. She also enjoys watching her children play sports and going on family adventures.
