HHS honors Students of the Year

HANNIBAL | Hannibal High School faculty and staff members recently chose a student from each grade level for Student of the Year honors for the 2019-2020 school year.

Ninth grade

Katherine Locke is the daughter of Jeff and Kori Locke. She is a member of Student Council, River City Revue and Concert Choir. Locke competes in cross country, basketball and track. She has been honored with the Student of the Month Award, was named to the A Honor Roll and was freshman homecoming attendant. Locke's motivation for success in school is so she can “go to dream college.” She shares a birthday with her older sister. Locke's hobbies are reading, painting, watching Duke games with her family and kneeboarding. Her future goal is to be an ESPN reporter or analyst.

Tenth grade

Samuel L. Hirner is the son of Joseph and Dr. Patricia Hirner. He is a member of Student Council, Interact Club, Environmental Club and is a Science Olympiad. Hirner competes in cross count ry and track. He was the Mahan Speech Competition winner in 2020. “I want to do well in school to be prepared for my future,” Hirner said regarding his motivation for success in school. He swam in both oceans and underground. Hirner's hobby is tabletop games. For the future, Hirner said, “I just want to do as much good as I can during my life.”

Eleventh grade

Allison Jaye Hull is the daughter of Marty and Audra Hull. She is a member of the Pre- Med Club, National Honors Society and National Technical Honors Society. Hull competes in volleyball and basketball. She has been named Student of the Month and has achieved a 4.1 GPA. “Hard work motivates me because my dream career of being a nurse practitioner comes closer into view the harder I work,” Hull said about her motivation for success in school. She is a Certified Nursing Assistant. Hull's hobbies are practicing volleyball and basketball, reading, writing and spending time with family and friends. Her future goal is “to go to college, earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, and go to a nursing school and become a nurse practitioner.”

Twelfth grade

Abigail Faith Baumann is the daughter of Debbie and Rick Baumann. She is a member of Student Council, National Honors Society, National Technical Honors Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Natural Helpers, Skills USA and Pre-Med Club. Baumann competed in HHS varsity volleyball for four years, HHS varsity basketball for three years, HHS varsity soccer for four years, HHS varsity swim team for one year and HHS Pirate Dance Line for two years. Baumann has been honored with ranking in the top 10 of her senior class, 2017 Freshman Student of the Month, A Honor Roll for HHS and Hannibal Career and Technical Center 2017-2020, Academic All State Volleyball 2017-2019, Academic All-State Soccer 2020, attended Skills USA District Contest and placed first and second in 2018-2019 and qualified and attended Skills USA state competition in 2019. Baumann's motivation for success in school is her career path. She swam with bioluminescent fungi in the Cayman Islands. Baumann's hobbies are playing sports, hanging out with friends and family and being outside. Her future goal is to “get accepted into medical school and become a doctor.”
