Six HHS seniors receive Kiwanis scholarships

HANNIBAL | The Hannibal Early Birds Kiwanis Club has announced the names of the six Hannibal High School seniors who will receive $1,000 scholarships for their academic standing and involvement in community and school activities.

All six scholarships have been named for past or present Kiwanis members of long standing.

Brecklyn Booth will receive the Hugh Yount Scholarship. Booth is planning to attend Culver- Stockton College in Canton, Mo., this fall seeking a degree in psychology. She wants to be an elementary school counselor.

Cole Gander has received the Roy Dietle Scholarship and is planning to attend the University of Missouri studying for a degree in biology. He hopes to work in the field of conservation.

Elizabeth Stilley is the recipient of the Cy Moffit Scholarship. Her plans are to enroll at Maryville University in St. Louis this fall and work toward a degree in actuarial sciences. She wants to be certified internationally and work as an actuary at a major insurance company.

Gillian Hark is the recipient of the Lee Viorel Scholar ship. Gillian's plans are to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia and enroll in a course of pre-medical studies. She wants to further her studies in area of medical research.

Meghan Sanders was selected to receive the Robert O. Parker Scholarship. Sanders also is planning on attending the University of Missouri Columbia this fall and study psychology and prelaw. Her goal is to be a family lawyer. Molly Broughton received the Bob Yount Scholarship. Broughton will be attending the University of Missouri-Columbia to study in the health science field. At this time, her goal is to become a physician's assistant.

The Hannibal Early Bird Kiwanis Club makes support for area students one of its priorities each year. The club not be able to support these and other graduating seniors without the support of area residents who give during fundraisers the Early Bird Kiwanis sponsor.

The Hannibal Early Birds Kiwanis Club meets every Thursday at 7 a.m., generally at the Hannibal Nutrition Center. Due to the COVID- 19 pandemic the club has been meeting at the Holiday Inn Express. Anyone who is interested in attending should call 573-248-8800 for details.
