MONTGOMERY CITY, Mo. – The Monroe City softball team scored five runs across the first three innings to top Montgomery County 6-2 in the Class 2 District 5 semifinals Thursday night.

Monroe City advances to play top-seeded Bowling Green in Saturday's final.

The Panthers broke out the bats in a three-run first inning when Mackenzie Moss and Bailey Hays had RBI doubles. Riley Quinn also helped herself with an RBI single to make it 3-1.

Moss added an RBI triple in the second, which made it 4-1. Madelyn Meyer's RBI single in the third made it a 5-1 lead.

That was more than enough run support for Quinn, who allowed just two runs on five hits. She struck out 11 and walked six for the victory.

Monroe City had 13 hits as Quinn had three. Moss, Hays, and Madison Moss had two hits apiece.
