HANNIBAL — Hannibal-LaGrange University will host Nick Freitas, a former Green Beret and former member of the Virginia House of Delegates, as the featured speaker for its annual Constitution Day program on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Roland Fine Arts Center.
The event is part of the university’s Free Society Speaker Series, which the university said is intended to foster discussion about constitutional government, individual liberty, and free markets, viewed through a Christian perspective.
Before entering politics, Freitas served two combat tours in Iraq with the U.S. Army Special Forces as a Green Beret. He went on to serve a decade in the Virginia House of Delegates, where speeches he gave on constitutional rights drew national attention online. He now hosts the podcast “Making the Argument” and speaks nationally on topics including the Constitution, faith, and leadership.
The event is open to the public. Tickets cost $10 and go on sale Monday, Aug. 3, at 8 a.m., available online through the university’s website or by phone. U.S. veterans can receive a $5 discount using a promotional code at checkout.
Constitution Day commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. Hannibal-LaGrange University, a four-year Christian institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, holds the event annually as part of its broader speaker series exploring topics in American civic life.
