New nonprofit launches to advocate for Missouri public education

JEFFERSON CITY — A new nonprofit organization, the Missouri Right to Education Foundation, has launched with the stated goal of educating Missourians on ways to advocate for expanded access to public education across the state.

The organization, registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was founded by Spencer Toder and Erica Sawyer, who previously led the Right to Education amendment campaign, according to the foundation. The group says it brings together parents, educators, community members and advocates working to protect and improve the state’s public schools.

Founders said the nonprofit was established alongside public education leaders because meaningful, lasting improvements to public education require infrastructure that extends beyond a single election cycle. The foundation says its priority is building sustainable, long-term support systems for educators, families and community members invested in public schools.

According to the foundation, its work will include publicizing research on public education funding and related policy issues, hosting public forums and informational events, and encouraging civic engagement in a nonpartisan educational capacity.

The foundation said it plans to make its research and educational resources available to the public and intends to engage directly with community members interested in learning more about its work.
